Rules Post

Sign-ups are scheduled to open on Wednesday 16th. January. Before then, I am looking for feedback to finalise the rules for this challenge, so feel free to comment to this post, pm me or email longficbingomod@gmail.com . I will listen to any suggestions.

1. Comment to the sign-up post to recieve a randomised 5x5 card of prompts.

2. In your sign-up post you may veto any prompts which you are uninterested in writing for whatever reason. If you feel more comfortable discussing your vetos through pm, feel free to do so. At this stage, there is no limit on the number of vetos allowed, but mods reserve the right to change this if it proves unworkable. You can read the full list of prompts here.

3. Fills must be fic or podfic with a minimum length of 5000 words.

Other types of fanworks: I would love to discuss ways to include other types of fanworks in this challenge. If there's a demand for different types of media to be included then there's no reason why they shouldn't be. My own experience is mostly limited to fic, however, so I would rely on input from others to work out suitable minimum requirements. If you want to discuss this, comment to this post, send me a pm or email longficbingomod@gmail.com .

4. Fills may not be friendslocked. All fills posted to the community must be publicly available.

5. Sign-ups will remain open indefinitely. There is not a time limit within which your fills must be created. The goal of this community is to encourage longer fic, and therefore players may continue using and earning points on the same card for as long as they wish.

6. Fills may be in any fandom, whether FPF or RPF. Original fiction is also allowed. Fills may be slash, femmeslash, het, or gen. You may combine fandoms in any way you wish - 25 fills with 25 different fandoms is allowed, 25 fills in the same fandom is allowed, anything in between is allowed.

7. You may request a new card after completing 500 points worth of fills on your current card. You are not required to complete a bingo before completing extras. A list of the bingos and extras possible can be found here.

8. When posting your fills to this community, content notes are required for character death, rape/non-con, dub-con, incest, underage (for the purposes of this community, any explicit sexual content involving characters under the age of 18), abuse and any type of self harm. Writers are encouraged to provide comprehensive content notes for the safety and convenience of readers and to include additional notes as they deem appropriate, but readers are advised that mods will not be enforcing the use of content notes beyond those listed above.

You can read in more detail about posting fills to the community here. Please read this before you post to the community. Posting is moderated and you will be asked to resubmit your post if it is not correct.

9. Prompts may not be filled by an existing fanwork. You must create new content to fill your prompts. If you reuse the same square on your bingo card to complete more than one bingo, you must create a new fill each time.

10. The fill should deal with the prompt in some significant way. For example, if the prompt is 'coffee shop', a fill where the only mention of a coffee shop is a single line about the characters buying coffee, that is not really in the spirit of the challenge. The prompt should feature significantly in the fill, although you are free to interpret the prompt as widely as you like.

11. The Wild Card square in the middle of the card is not a free space, but rather a square where you can choose any prompt from the list, whether it appears elsewhere on your card or not. If you reuse the Wild Card square, you may choose a different prompt each time.

12. The prompts may be interpreted as widely as you wish. The prompt 'gangsters', for example, may be used to prompt an AU where canon characters are gangsters, or a canon-compliant fill where canon characters are targeted by gangsters, or a PWP where characters role-play as gangsters. The prompts are categorised for organisation purposes, but that is not intended to restrict the way they are used. 'Gangsters' may be listed as an AU propmt, but you are not bound to use the prompt for an AU fic.

Is there a restriction as to using a new fill for this game as well as for another game, for instance, hurt comfort or kink bingo?
Jan. 16th, 2013 10:42 pm (UTC)
No restriction on this end :)

Can I combine one of the squares with a bigbang if they allow it? Thanks

That would be fine.

I want to write a story (over 5k for one prompt) as a fill for http://unconventionalcourtship.dreamwidth.org/ as well. I would be using the plot from the book I chose from UnconventionalCourtship (it's a marriage of convenience plot which is one of of my bingo slots), while still meeting the requirements for this community.

Yes, that would be fine on this end.

If I just started a fic (and haven't posted any of it), or have an older fragment of an unfinished, unposted fic, that works with a prompt, can I finish that fic for this challenge?

Provided the fic is unposted, you're free to use it however you like.

(WIP's can be used too, but only the portion posted after you receive your card will earn points.)

Heeey, I feel like I already know the answer to this, but I'd rather ask...

For the crossover prompts, for, say, Crossover-Movie, does it have to be only movies crossed over or made into a fusion, or can it be a movie and a television show? And so on, for the other crossover prompts.
Mar. 1st, 2013 10:04 pm (UTC)
The crossover prompts should be your canon of choice, regardless of medium, crossed over with a movie or whatever medium is specified.

"If you reuse the same square on your bingo card to complete more than one bingo, you must create a new fill each time."

This goes for extras too, right?
Mar. 16th, 2013 02:55 am (UTC)
Yup, same thing applies.

Hey, do you think you could ever arrange a page for people to ask for betas?
Apr. 4th, 2013 07:11 am (UTC)
I can't believe I never thought of doing this! Should be able to get a post up in the next couple of days.
Apr. 4th, 2013 09:03 pm (UTC)
Yay! Thank you. That'll be helpful. I hope people offer to beta.

I'm ba-ack! So, I was wondering if it would be possible to do a WIP for this challenge, as long as the fic was already done/past the word limit from the beginning. I mean, write a chaptered fic and then not post it all at once. Is that fine? Didn't you miss my incoherent questions?
May. 22nd, 2013 12:38 pm (UTC)
Hi! :)

Over on the Dreamwidth post, what we decided on was that WIP's can be used, provided they're finished before you link it here. If part of the WIP is posted before you sign up for your card, that portion won't earn points but you can still use the fic so long as at least 5k is posted after you receive your card.

Cool, thanks!
